Project to design tower and blades of a small-scale wind turbine
This project took several months to complete. I worked with a team of 6 mechanical and electrical engineers. Work included research through reading research papers and websites, simulating drag and thrust through QBlade open-source software, self-studying some fluid dynamics and equations, learning the capabilities of ABS 3D Printing, assembly through gluing and zip-ties, and meeting the project specifications of under $200 cost (with $3 per square inch of ABS) and dimensions (below 24″ and with 3″ blades). The final testing included a test of energy generation and tower deflection.
I focused on blade profile research, FEA simulation, energy generation, and CAD design during the project.
